Marco Querin

Textile Art

My life has been one of constant change and adaptation, both unsettling and exciting conditions by which one can still grow and thrive, but that can make it difficult to anticipate outcome and overall direction. Consequently, I am intrigued by all that can be controlled. My fiber-based work has, in itself, characteristics derived by this reality such as fragility, tension, elasticity and equilibrium, and only through a precision-based controlled execution, my work comes to life and tells a story that has a clear beginning and an end in sight.

Marco Querin was born in 1978 and lived in his city of birth, Milan, until the age of nineteen, when he moved with his family to Chicago for a long and important period of his life. It was in Chicago that he began his artistic endeavors, first experimenting with the use of various natural materials such as poppy seeds, cinnamon powder, saffron, and vanilla tea, eventually evolving to the exclusive use of wool, cotton, metal wire and plastics. It is the use of these basic materials on canvas that have become his “recognized artistic signature.” Threads, which were initially used only as a decorative element in his works, have finally become his primary artistic medium, now entirely covering his canvasses.
